Sascha Heyer (born July 21, 1972 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss beach volleyball player.

Career

Heyer began his volleyball career in 1990 at VBC Säuliamt . Before Heyer started playing volleyball, he played tennis . Just two years later he was on the Swiss national volleyball team. In 1993 he moved to MTV Näfels and in the 1998/99 season he was German champion and cup winner with VfB Friedrichshafen .

After playing beach volleyball with changing partners (including Patrick Egger, Martin Walser, Martin Tschudi, Martin Flückiger), he formed a permanent duo with Markus Egger from 2000 . The team reached the European Championship finals in 2000, became European champions in 2001, reached third place in 2003 and the European Championship final again in 2004. After Egger formed a team with Martin Laciga in autumn 2004, Heyer played together with Paul Laciga . At the 2005 World Cup in Berlin they were only defeated in the final by the Brazilians Márcio Araújo and Fábio Luiz . From 2007 Patrick Heuscher was Heyers partner. The duo, trained by Jürgen Wagner, finished ninth and fifth at the 2007 and 2008 European Championships. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Heuscher / Heyer retired as third party after the preliminary round. After four years together, the Heyer-Heuscher duo separated at the end of 2010 for sporting reasons. Sascha Heyer played together with Sébastien Chevallier . During their second joint appearance on the FIVB World Tour , Heyer-Chevallier won the bronze medal at the Prague Open. At his second Olympic Games in London in 2012, Heyer / Chevallier failed in the second round to the Poles Fijałek and Prudel . Before the 2012 Olympic Games, Heyer announced his retirement at the end of the season at the age of 40.

Sascha Heyer won seven Swiss beach volleyball titles , the last at the end of his career: in 2012 with Sébastien Chevallier.
