Alexei Strasser (formerly Alexei Prawdzic , born July 29, 1987 in Zurich ) is a Swiss volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career beach volleyball

Strasser was a player in the Swiss junior national team from 2005 to 2008. In 2007 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Modena with Constantin Quadt and reached 25th place. The following year they played their first open tournament on the FIVB World Tour in Marseille . In 2009 Strasser formed an elite national team with Jonas Weingart . As the best result, Prawdzic / Weingart achieved second place at the satellite tournament in Vaduz . In the five joint open tournaments, however, they did not get beyond the 41st place. In the following years Strasser only played a few tournaments. In 2013 he returned and formed a new duo with Mirco Gerson , who won the tournaments in Zurich and Geneva , Rorschach and finally the Swiss championship on the Swiss tour . However, Strasser played his first two Grand Slams with Sébastien Chevallier , in which he immediately reached his first top 10 classification. In Gstaad and in Anapa Open Prawdzic / Gerson were then jointly. At the European Championships in Klagenfurt , after two wins in the preliminary round, they came second in the group to the next round. They survived the first knockout round without a fight before they were eliminated in the round of 16 against the later bronze medal winners Fijałek / Prudel and finished ninth. After winning the Swiss championship , Strasser separated from Gerson and formed a new duo with Sébastien Chevallier. In April 2014 he took his father's surname (Strasser). After the joint season with Sébastien Chevallier, in which Strasser achieved ninth place at the FIVB Super Grand Slam in The Hague and became vice-Swiss champion, Strasser played with Nico Beeler from 2015 . At the FIVB Open in Lucerne , Beeler / Strasser immediately took fourth place as tournament number 28 and Strasser was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award. On the Swiss tour, Strasser won his tenth tournament win on the Coop Beach Tour with victory in Rorschach. In 2016 the duo started with a ninth place at the FIVB Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro, where they won the opening game against world number two Evandro / Pedro from Brazil, as they did at the FIVB Grand Slam in Olsztyn in August 2015 . At the FIVB Major in Gstaad , the Swiss national team once again made it into the top 10 in front of their home crowd. It was the Brazilian Evandro / Pedro mentioned above who stopped Beeler / Strasser in the round of 16 and later even managed to celebrate themselves as the tournament winners. In Vaduz, Beeler / Strasser competed in their last joint tournament on the European stage and won the tournament. Shortly afterwards, in September 2016, Alexei Strasser ended his professional sports career in first place in the national rankings and 36th in the world rankings. Professional ambitions in particular were the decisive reason. On September 14, 2016 Alexei Strasser announced his retirement from high-performance sport and the international stage. A year later, in September 2017, Strasser surprisingly became Swiss champion for the second time alongside Sébastien Chevallier.
