Damien Schumann (born December 11, 1987 in Melbourne ) is an Australian beach volleyball player .

Career

Schumann played his first open tournaments on the FIVB World Tour in 2010 with Owen Boland in Shanghai , Mysłowice and Prague . Schumann / Boland also completed the tournaments in Poland and the Czech Republic on the 2012 World Tour, but dropped out again early. At the Asian Cup, they finished ninth. In 2013 they only played a few national tournaments and one continental tournament in Indonesia .

At the Grand Slam in Xiamen in October 2013, Schumann already competed with his new partner Joshua Court and came in 25th place. In 2014 Schumann / Court finished fifth in the Asian Cup after a number of national and continental tournaments and the Fuzhou Open. After the Grand Slam in Stare Jabłonki , they reached 17th and 25th place at the Open tournaments in Paraná and Doha . In 2015 they were eliminated early at the FIVB series open tournaments in Fuzhou and Lucerne . Then they competed at the World Cup in the Netherlands . There they were tied with two other teams in the preliminary group, but were eliminated as the bottom group. On the World Tour they then played the Gstaad Major, the Antalya Open and the Qatar Open. The year 2016 started with a few national tournament victories and third place at the Asian Cup. On the World Tour , they only played the Fuzhou Open and the Grand Slam in Long Beach , without going beyond double-digit results.

In 2017 Schumann formed a new duo with Christopher McHugh . McHugh / Schumann won the tournament in Shepparton, which was only rated with one star , at the beginning of the World Tour . They finished third at the Asian Cup in Thailand . Then they finished ninth in the three-star tournaments in Xiamen and Moscow, before they achieved double-digit results in the top-categorized tournaments in Poreč and Gstaad . Via the AVC preliminary decision, they qualified for the World Cup in Vienna , where they defeated the Americans Gibb / Crabb in the first main round as second in the group, but were eliminated in the round of 16 against their compatriots Dalhausser / Lucena . In April 2018 McHugh / Schumann won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in their native Gold Coast . Then the two separated.

Cole Durant has been Schumann's new partner since June 2018 . The best result on the World Tour was a fourth place at the 3-star tournament in Qinzhou . At the 2019 World Cup in Hamburg, Durant / Schumann were eliminated in the first main round against the Poles Fijałek / Bryl .
