Alex Ranghieri (born June 18, 1987 in Pordenone ) is an Italian volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career indoor volleyball

Ranghieri played indoor volleyball for various Italian clubs from 2004 to 2013. In his youth he was active in his native Cordenons and with Sisley Treviso . From 2006 to 2009, the outside attacker played in Serie B for Robur Ravenna . After that, Ranghieri played in the A2 series for Marcegaglia Ravenna, Sir Safety Perugia and Pallavolo Loreto .

Career beach volleyball

Ranghieri has also been active in beach volleyball since 2010. On the FIVB World Tour , he did not initially have any top placements alongside Andrea Tomatis . In 2011 and 2012 Ranghieri only had sporadic missions with Matteo Varnier and Matteo Cecchini . In 2013/2014 Ranghieri played again with Tomatis, this time much more successfully. Ranghieri / Tomatis had some top ten placements on the World Tour and finished ninth at the 2014 European Championships in Cagliari . With Marco Caminati , Ranghieri achieved the first victory on the FIVB World Tour at the Luzern Open .

Ranghieri has been competing on the FIVB World Tour with Adrian Carambula since 2015 . In the Poreč Major , Carambula / Ranghieri took third place. At the European Championships in Klagenfurt they only lost in the final and thus won the silver award. At the end of 2015 they won the Antalya Open and at the beginning of 2016 the Doha Open on the World Tour , on which they were able to achieve several other top ten results. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Carambula / Ranghieri finished ninth as well as at the World Tour Final in Toronto . After some weaker results on the World Tour 2017 , a 17th place at the World Championships in Vienna and a fifth place at the European Championships in Jūrmala , the two separated.

Ranghieri already played a few tournaments with Caminati in 2016 and 2017 and came fourth in the Grand Slam in Long Beach . Caminati has been his permanent partner on the World Tour since 2018. The two Italians will also start at the 2019 World Cup in Hamburg .
