At the U20 European Championships in Greece, she was ninth with Tanja Goricanec . With Brunner she only played a Masters tournament in Blackpool and a week at the same place the Junior World Championship, in which the duo reached ninth place. At the U23 European Championships in Kos , she finished 19th with Brunner. She competed with Goricanec at the Junior World Championships in Alanya and finished fifth. She received the Swiss Volley Award in the “Youngster of the Year 2010” category for her achievements.

Internationally she played the Grand Slams in Gstaad with Brunner and in Stare Jabłonki with Forrer. In Porto she reached fourth place with Goricanec at the U23 European Championship. At the Den Haag Open, she retired early with Kayser. Then she drove to the U21 World Cup in Halifax with Nina Betschart, who was only 16 at the time, and won the title in the final against the Canadians Altomare / Humana-Paredes . Heidrich / Betschart were named "Young Team of the Year 2011" by Sporthilfe. In 2012 Heidrich played on the World Tour with Kayser. The duo came in ninth at the Grand Slam in Gstaad. Heidrich won the satellite tournament in Vaduz with Muriel Grässli . Heidrich / Kayser took seventh place at the Masters tournament in Varna . At the Swiss championship they were only defeated in the final against Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Vergé-Dépré . At the end of the year Heidrich came ninth with Betschart at the Bang Saen Open.

In 2013 she formed a new duo with Nadine Zumkehr . On the World Tour they finished ninth at the Fuzhou Open and the Grand Slam in Corrientes . At the Masters in Baden they reached the finals and at the Grand Slam in Rome they made it to the quarter-finals and finished fifth. In Stare Jabłonki they took part in the 2013 World Cup. They started with a win against their national opponents Kayser / Grässli in the preliminary round and came second in the group. In the first knockout round they had to admit defeat to the Brazilian duo Maestrini / Seixas . At the following Grand Slams in Gstaad and Long Beach , they each took ninth place. They finished the Swiss championship in fourth place.

At the beginning of the 2014 season, Heidrich / Zumkehr reached the final of the Coop tournament in Zurich. At the 2014 European Championships in Quartu Sant'Elena , they came second in the group and finally had to admit defeat to the Czechs Kolocová / Sluková in the round of 16 . On the World Tour they achieved two fifth places in Gstaad and The Hague and three ninth places in other Grand Slams. They also finished fifth at the CEV Masters in Biel / Bienne . A few days later they became Swiss champions in Bern with a victory in the final against Forrer / Vergé-Dépré.

In the 2015 World Tour, Heidrich / Zumkehr achieved ninth places at the Lucerne Open and the major tournaments in Poreč and Stavanger . They finished three Grand Slams each in 17th place. The World Cup in the Netherlands was less successful for them. They follow the opening game against Forrer / Vergé-Dépré and then retired as one of the worse group thirds after the preliminary round. After finishing ninth in the Grand Slam in Yokohama , they took part in the European Championships in Klagenfurt . There they came second in the group to the round of 16, which they lost to the new European champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst . A little later, Heidrich / Zumkehr won the Masters tournament in Biel / Bienne in the final against Forrer / Vergé-Dépré. After finishing ninth in the Grand Slam in Olsztyn , they finished third in the Sochi Open. They then succeeded in winning the final of the Sochi Open against the Spaniards Liliana / Baquerizo, their second tournament victory on the World Tour. With fifth place in Moscow there was another top ten result. At the EM in Biel / Bienne , Heidrich / Zumkehr won their preliminary group, but then lost the round of 16 against Hermannová / Sluková in the tie- break. After a few less successful major tournaments, they reached the final in Klagenfurt, in which the German European champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst prevailed. As the second best Swiss team in the Olympic rankings, Heidrich / Zumkehr qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There they came second in the group to the quarter-finals, which they lost in the tie-break against the Brazilians Larissa / Talita . They finished the tournament in fifth place. At the FIVB season finale in Toronto , Heidrich / Zumkehr lost 2-0 in the final against Olympic champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst . In October 2016 Heidrich was named “Most Improved Player” on the FIVB World Tour.

Heidrich has been playing with Anouk Vergé-Dépré since 2017 , whose former partner Isabelle Forrer and Nadine Zumkehr resigned at the end of 2016. Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré had a successful first season, won silver at the FIVB 4-star tournament in Holland and reached the quarter-finals at the 5-star tournaments of the Beach Major Series several times in a row. Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré played their way into the round of 16 at the World Cup in Vienna , where they lost out against the Brazilian tandem Larissa / Talita. At the end of the season, Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré achieved fifth place in the World Tour Final and won the Swiss championship against Betschart / Hüberli . Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré achieved the best Swiss placement on the world rankings with # 7.

In 2018 Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré won silver at the 4-star tournament in Itapema. However, the team had to end the season after the first half because of a herniated disc from Joana Heidrich. After the tournament in Gstaad, Joana Heidrich underwent an operational procedure.

Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré started the 2019 season with a top 10 result, but they didn't find the rhythm for a long time. Only shortly before the World Cup in Hamburg did the duo find their way back to regular round of 16 results. In Hamburg, Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré won the group and advanced to the second round. But there the Australian duo Clancy / Artacho del Solar got the upper hand in the third set. At the European Championships in Moscow, Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré advanced to the semi-finals and finished the tournament in 4th place. The week after the duo achieved the big coup, they won the 4-star tournament against the Brazilian duo Talita / Lima and thus celebrated their first World Tour victory in the new constellation. At the Swiss Championships in Bern, Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré lost out in the final against Betschart / Hüberli in the third set. At the Rome Beach Finals, the tandem finished the season in 4th place after an exciting game against Ana Patricia / Rebecca from Brazil.
