Career

Zumkehr first appeared internationally in 2005. With Annik Skrivan she completed her first tournament of the FIVB World Tour at the Milan Open . Zumkehr / Skrivan achieved the best result in this competition with 25th place at the Grand Slam in Gstaad . Things went better at the CEV satellite tournaments . In Lausanne , Zumkehr finished seventh with Skrivan and fifth in Vaduz with Muriel Grässli . In the 2006 season, Zumkehr / Skrivan did not get past 33rd place in the World Tour for a long time, only in the later tournaments in Vitória and Phuket they reached 25th place. The only international top ten result was fifth place in Vaduz. In the Swiss championship in 2006, Zumkehr / Skrivan achieved third place. In 2007 the duo completed three open tournaments and the Grand Slam in Berlin . Then they took part in the world championships in Gstaad . There they had to say goodbye without winning a set after the preliminary round. They had their last joint appearance on the World Tour at the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt . Nationally, Zumkehr was again third in the Swiss championship , this time with Tania Schmocker .

In the 2008 season, Zumkehr played with Grässli. After the Grand Slam in Paris and a seventh place at the satellite tournament in Laredo , they took part in the 2008 European Championship in Hamburg . They lost their first game in the main round and were eliminated in the second round on the losing side against the Greek duo Koutroumanidou / Tsiartsiani . Shortly thereafter, they came seventh in the top ten at the Marseille Open. They finished ninth at the Kristiansand Open. After finishing 17th in Dubai , they parted ways.

In 2009, Zumkehr formed a Swiss national team with Simone Kuhn . At their first joint tournament in the world series, Kuhn / Zumkehr finished ninth in Brasília . After two 13th places, they came seventh at the Masters in Berlin. Then they played at the World Cup in Stavanger . As second in the group, they reached the first knockout round, in which they lost to Chinese women Xue Chen and Zhang Xi . This was followed by a ninth place in the Grand Slam in Gstaad . They achieved the same result at the Barcelona Open. In Sochi , they won their preliminary group at the 2009 European Championships and made it to the semi-finals. After a defeat against the Germans Goller / Ludwig, the Swiss won the match for third place against the Belgian Mouha / Van Breedam . In Bern , Kuhn / Zumkehr became Swiss champions with a final victory over Romana Kayser and Martina Grossen . In November they won the Sanya Open and were the first Swiss women to win a tournament on the World Tour.

At the World Tour 2010 they came in ninth place in five tournaments from May to the beginning of August and they did even better in fifth at the Grand Slam in Stavanger . At the European Championships in Berlin they were second to the Dutch duo Wesselink / Meppelink in the round of 16 and also finished the tournament in ninth place. Then they finished seventh at the Åland Open. Nationally, Kuhn / Zumkehr successfully defended their title at the Swiss championship in a new edition of last year's final. They achieved their first top ten result of the 2011 World Tour as ninth in the Mysłowice Open. After a fifth place in the Grand Slam in Beijing , they traveled to the World Cup in Rome . They were second in the group in the preliminary round, but in the first main round they could not prevail against the Austrian sisters Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger . They were more successful again on the World Tour with fifth places in the Grand Slams in Gstaad and Moscow and fifth in Klagenfurt. At the European Championships in Kristiansand they stayed in the preliminary round without losing a set and made it to the quarterfinals against Goller / Ludwig. At the Swiss championship they won the title for the third time in a row, this time in the final against Isabelle Forrer and Romana Kayser.

At the start of the 2012 World Tour , they finished ninth four times in a row. They won the Grand Slam in Rome in the final against Goller / Ludwig and thus achieved their second joint tournament victory on an international level. Then there was another medal with bronze in Gstaad. As the ninth-best team in the Olympic rankings, they qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games . In London they came third in the group of sixteen, in which they had to admit defeat to the later silver medal winners Ross / Kessy from the USA. Then they finished ninth in Stare Jabłonki and fourth in Åland. The defending champions came third in the Swiss championship. At the end of the year, the duo broke up when Kuhn resigned.

Zumkehr has been playing with Joana Heidrich since 2013 . On the World Tour they finished ninth at the Fuzhou Open and the Grand Slam in Corrientes . At the Masters in Baden they reached the finals and at the Grand Slam in Rome they made it to the quarter-finals and finished fifth. In Stare Jabłonki they took part in the 2013 World Cup. They started with a win against their national opponents Kayser / Grässli in the preliminary round and came second in the group. In the first knockout round they had to admit defeat to the Brazilian duo Maestrini / Seixas . At the following Grand Slams in Gstaad and Long Beach , they each took ninth place. They finished the Swiss championship in fourth place.

At the beginning of the 2014 season, Heidrich / Zumkehr reached the final of the Coop tournament in Zurich. At the 2014 European Championships in Quartu Sant'Elena , they came second in the group and finally had to admit defeat to the Czechs Kolocová / Sluková in the round of 16 . On the World Tour they achieved two fifth places in Gstaad and The Hague and three ninth places in other Grand Slams. They also finished fifth at the CEV Masters in Biel / Bienne . A few days later they became Swiss champions in Bern with a victory in the final against Forrer / Vergé-Dépré.

In the 2015 World Tour, Heidrich / Zumkehr achieved ninth places at the Lucerne Open and the major tournaments in Poreč and Stavanger . They finished three Grand Slams each in 17th place. The World Cup in the Netherlands was less successful for them. They follow the opening game against Forrer / Vergé-Dépré and then retired as one of the worse group thirds after the preliminary round. After finishing ninth in the Grand Slam in Yokohama , they took part in the European Championships in Klagenfurt . There they came second in the group to the round of 16, which they lost to the new European champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst . A little later, Heidrich / Zumkehr won the Masters tournament in Biel / Bienne in the final against Forrer / Vergé-Dépré. After finishing ninth in the Grand Slam in Olsztyn , they finished third in the Sochi Open. Then they won the final of the Xiamen Open against the Argentines Gallay / Klug and thus celebrated their first tournament victory on the World Tour.

The World Tour 2016 started for the Swiss duo with two 17th places before they finished fifth at the Vitória Open. Then they won the Coop tournament in Zurich in the final against Betschart / Hüberli. At the Open tournaments in Xiamen and Fuzhou, they finished fifth and third. They then succeeded in winning the final of the Sochi Open against the Spaniards Liliana / Baquerizo, their second tournament victory on the World Tour. With fifth place in Moscow there was another top ten result. At the EM in Biel / Bienne , Heidrich / Zumkehr won their preliminary group, but then lost the round of 16 against Hermannová / Sluková in the tie- break. After a few less successful major tournaments, they reached the final in Klagenfurt, in which the German European champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst prevailed. As the second best Swiss team in the Olympic rankings, Heidrich / Zumkehr qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There they came second in the group to the quarter-finals, which they lost in the tie-break against the Brazilians Larissa / Talita . They finished the tournament in fifth place. At the FIVB season finale in Toronto , Heidrich / Zumkehr lost 2-0 in the final against Olympic champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst . Then Nadine Zumkehr ended her international career.
