Beach volleyball European championship 2008

The medal winners

The 2008 European Beach Volleyball Championship took place from July 10th to 13th in Hamburg . The respective competitions for women and men were held in parallel. The German duo Sara Goller / Laura Ludwig became European champions with a win against the Norwegians Håkedal / Tørlen . Okka Rau and Stephanie Pohl lost to the second Norwegian duo Glesnes / Maaseide in the game for third place . In the men's event, Kay Matysik and Stefan Uhmann had to admit defeat to Dutch Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil in the final. Julius Brink and Christoph Dieckmann could not compete in the small final against the Russians Barsuk / Kolodinski .

Organization and media

The organizer of the tournament, which was held by the DVV , was the European association CEV . The total of four seats were on Hamburg's Rathausplatz ( Center Court ) and on Grosse Elbstrasse . A total of 200,000 euros in prize money was awarded to the participants, half for men and half for women. The new European champions received 20,000 euros each. In addition, winning the title was rewarded with 800 points for the European and 500 points for the world rankings. The broadcaster laola1.tv showed the games live and free of charge in the internet stream .

mode

32 teams each competed for women and men. Germany was allowed to host four teams each. In addition, a total of three wildcards were awarded.

The competition was held in a double knockout system . In the event of a defeat in the main round (winner's bracket), the duo ended up in the losing round. The two winners of the main round met the winners of the losers round in the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will be determined by the new European champion in the final.
