Career

In 2001, Mesa and Pablo Herrera Allepuz became vice world champion of the juniors and won the junior title a year later. In the next two years he played with changing partners. At the 2003 World Cup he was eliminated with Manuel Carrasco Saenz after the preliminary round.

From the end of 2004 he formed a permanent duo with Herrera again. The following year they failed at the World Championships in Berlin because of the Estonians Kais / Vesik and the Austrians Berger / Doppler . Two months later they became European champions in Moscow with a 2-1 victory in the final against the Swiss Patrick Heuscher and Stefan Kobel . As defending champions they came in seventh in 2006 in The Hague after defeats against the Belgians Joosen / Melis and the Swiss brothers Martin and Paul Laciga .

At the 2007 World Cup they had to admit defeat to Kais / Vesik again in the round of 16. The following European Championships in Valencia they finished in 13th place. The following year they were defeated by the Swiss Heuscher / Heyer and the Russians Barsuk / Kolodinski in Hamburg and came in seventh. Shortly afterwards they took part in the Olympic tournament in Beijing , where they reached the round of 16 against the Americans Gibb / Rosenthal . After that, they parted ways.

After an interlude with Adrián Gavira Collado , Mesa played with Inocencio Lario Carrillo from 2009 to 2012 . In their first year together, the new duo came in 17th at the World Championships in Stavanger and ninth at the European Championships in Sochi . In 2010 in Berlin , Mesa / Lario just barely missed an EM medal with a 2-0 draw against Plavins / Smedins from Latvia . At the 2011 World Cup, they were eliminated in the first main round against the eventual overall winner Emanuel / Alison .
