Martin Laciga (born January 25, 1975 in Aarberg , Switzerland ) is a former Swiss beach volleyball player .

As number 1 in the world rankings in 1999, vice world champion in the same year, three-time European champion, two-time vice-European champion and three-time Swiss champion, Laciga is one of the most successful Swiss beach volleyball players. Laciga played a total of 206 tournaments - after the Brazilian Emanuel Rego (over 300 tournaments), the most beach volleyball competitions worldwide. On January 30, 2013, he announced his resignation.

Career

Martin Laciga began playing beach volleyball in the mid-1990s. Martin Laciga played his first tournament with his brother Paul at the 1992 Swiss Beach Volleyball Championship, where he achieved 17th place. Two years later, the Laciga brothers had their first national victory. The following year they played on their first FIVB World Tour . Martin played successfully in doubles with his brother Paul Laciga from 1999 to 2004, they became vice world champions in 1999 and took part in three other World Cup tournaments until 2003. After finishing third at the 1997 European Championships, they won the European Championships three times in a row from 1998 to 2000; In 2001 and 2002 they became vice European champions. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and in Athens in 2004, they were each fifth. After Athens the brothers separated and Martin Laciga played with Markus Egger in 2005/2006 . In 2007 Jan Schnider became his partner, with whom he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and achieved ninth place. From 2009 Laciga played with the Brazilian Jefferson Bellaguarda and achieved success with him on the FIVB World Tour.
