Vasiliki Arvaniti ( Greek Βασιλική Αρβανίτη ; born March 17, 1985 in Athens ) is a Greek beach volleyball player .

Career

Arvaniti reached the 2001 Junior World Championships in Le Lavandou with Efthalia Koutroumanidou 19th place. The following year, the duo rose to fourth place in the same competition in Catania . At the Rhodos Open 2002 Arvaniti played her first tournament on the FIVB World Tour with Areti Bouzounieraki . The two Greek women then finished ninth at the Youth World Cup in Xylokastro . At the Rhodos Open 2003 Arvaniti appeared again with Koutroumanidou and achieved fifth place. At the Grand Slam in Marseille and the Open tournaments in Osaka and Lianyungang , three ninth places followed. The European Championship in Alanya was over for Arvaniti / Koutroumanidou after three defeats in the group games after the preliminary round. After a temporary fifth place at the Grand Slam in Los Angeles , they also competed at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro in 2003 . There they came in second in the group behind the German duo Lahme / Müsch in the first knockout round, in which they were defeated by the future world champions Walsh / May . At the 2004 European Championships in Timmendorfer Strand , Arvaniti / Koutroumanidou reached the round of 16 as third, which they lost against the Czech Celbová / Nováková . On the World Tour they were able to book a seventh place in Shanghai and two ninth places in Berlin and Stavanger . They also qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens . The year 2005 began for Arvaniti and her new partner Vassiliki Karadassiou with two seventh places in Shanghai and Osaka as well as the final in Milan . At the World Cup in Berlin, Arvaniti / Karadassiou lost to the later finalists Larissa / Juliana from Brazil after two victories against Kusuhara / Urata and Lahme / Müsch ; in the losing round they were eliminated against the US duo Wacholder / Youngs and finished the tournament in ninth place. They then won the Grand Slam in Stavanger . At the European Championships in Moscow , Arvaniti / Karadassiou reached the semifinals with three wins, which they won against Pohl / Rau. In the final, they prevailed against the Dutch Kadijk / Mooren and became European champions.

In 2006 they achieved various other top ten results on the World Tour, including fourth place in the Klagenfurt Grand Slam. At the European Championship in The Hague, the defending champions lost to the Russian duo Schirjajewa / Urjadowa in the second game before they failed in the losing round to Pohl / Rau. On the 2007 World Tour, they made it into the top ten every time they performed. At the European Championships in Valencia , the two Greeks did not give up a set on the way to the final and won their second title with a 2-1 in the final against the Germans Goller / Ludwig . In 2008 Arvaniti / Karadassiou finished fourth in the Barcelona Open and second in Stavanger. On the way to defending their title, they were stopped at the European Championships in Hamburg by the Norwegian duos Glesnes / Maaseide and Håkedal / Tørlen . The 2008 Olympic Games were over for Arvaniti / Karadassiou after three defeats in the group stage after the preliminary round.

In 2009 Arvaniti formed a new duo with Maria Tsiartsiani , who started with a seventh place in Brasília . At the World Cup in Stavanger , Arvaniti / Tsiartsiani came second in the knockout round and were eliminated in the round of 16 against eventual world champions Ross / Kessy . Later in the year there was a second place at the Grand Slam in Marseille and two fifth places at open tournaments. In 2010 Arvaniti / Tsiartsiani finished ninth on the World Tour six times before traveling to the European Championships in Berlin . There they had to admit defeat to the Finnish Nyström sisters as group runner-up in the preliminary round in the round of 16 . In the following year they managed to win the group at the World Cup in Rome , but then lost in the first knockout game against the Spaniards Liliana / Baquerizo . The EM in Kristiansand also ended for Arvaniti / Tsiartsiani in the first main round against the Austrians Hansel / Montagnolli . As the best World Tour results in 2011, they achieved two fifth places in Stavanger and The Hague. In 2012 they came to the EM in The Hague after two ninth places in the Grand Slams in China . There they reached the final, in which they - as in the first group game - conceded a defeat against Keizer / van Iersel . The runner-up European champions also qualified for the Olympic Games in London . In a balanced preliminary round, they were eliminated from the group, despite their four points. Since 2013 Arvaniti played with Panagiota Karagkouni . At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki, Arvaniti / Karagkouni were eliminated after the preliminary round despite a victory over the Thais Radarong / Udomchavee . At the EM in Klagenfurt they finished fifth after they were eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Germans Holtwick / Semmler .

After Tsiartsiani's baby break, Arvaniti played with her again from June 2014 to September 2015. At the EM 2015 in Klagenfurt , the Greek women reached fifth place. Karagkouni has been her partner again since 2016.
