Chiaki Kusuhara ( Japanese 楠 原 千秋 , Kusuhara Chiaki ; born November 1, 1975 in Matsuyama ) is a former Japanese beach volleyball player .

Career

Kusuhara played her first international tournaments with Ryōko Tokuno in 1998 . The following year, the Japanese finished 33rd at the World Cup in Marseille . 2001 in Klagenfurt they failed as group runner-up in the first main round to the eventual tournament winners Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede from Brazil and thus achieved 17th place, as in numerous open tournaments this year. They were also tenth at the Goodwill Games in Brisbane . In 2002 they made it into the top ten of open tournaments in Montreal and Stavanger for the first time and just barely missed a medal as fourth in the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt . In the first main round of the 2003 World Cup , they again had to admit defeat to Adriana Behar and Shelda. In 2004 they took part in the Olympic tournament in Athens and were eliminated as third in the group after the preliminary round. Then they separated.

Kusuhara formed a new duo with Satoko Urata , who came ninth twice at the 2004 Open tournaments in Rio de Janeiro and 2005 in Osaka . At the World Cup in Berlin , however, they did not get beyond 33rd place when they lost in the second round to the Greek duo Karadassiou / Arvaniti and then eliminated against the Canadians Dumont / Fiset . In 2006 they had their last joint appearance at the Grand Slam in Paris .

Then Kusuhara played with Mika Saiki . After three ninth places in FIVB tournaments, the new duo remained in the preliminary round of the 2007 World Cup without winning a set. Kusuhara / Saiki were also unsuccessful at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . In 2009 Kusuhara played two more open tournaments in Osaka and Seoul with Urata.
