Ryōko Tokuno ( Japanese 徳 野 涼子 , Tokuno Ryōko ; born August 27, 1974 in Matsuyama ) is a Japanese beach volleyball player .

Career

Tokuno played her first three open tournaments on the FIVB World Tour in 1997 with Chie Seike . In 1998 she formed a duo with Chiaki Kusuhara . The best result in the first year together was a 25th place in Salvador da Bahia . At the 1999 World Championships in Marseille , Kusuhara / Tokuno finished 33rd. The following year they reached 17th place each at the Grand Slam in Chicago and five open tournaments. In the group matches of the 2001 World Cup in Klagenfurt , the two Japanese women won and lost before they were defeated in the first knockout round by the future world champions Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede from Brazil. After 13th place in Osaka and fifth place in Hong Kong , they also competed at the Goodwill Games in Brisbane , where they were tenth.

In 2002, Kusuhara / Tokuno came fourth in the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt and ninth three times in open tournaments. A year later, ninth places followed in the Berlin Grand Slam and in Lianyungang . At the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro , Kusuhara / Tokuno lost the opening game against the Germans Ahmann / Vollmer , but achieved the first main round by winning the national duel against Rii Seike and Misaki Yamakawa in third place in the group, in which they, like two years earlier, they won the Brazilian champions documents. In 2004 they qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens . There they met in their group the later gold medal winners Walsh / May from the USA. In 2005 Tokuno formed a new duo with Mika Saiki . The best results on the World Tour were a 13th place in Milan and two 17th places. At the World Cup in Berlin , Tokuno / Saiki lost their second game against the Germans Pohl / Rau after their opening win against Dumont / Fiset . On the losing side, they defeated Alcon / Zalubovskaya from Spain before they were eliminated by Keizer / Leenstra from the Netherlands .
