Life

Harms attended the secondary school in Lübeck . From 1931 he studied natural sciences with a focus on physics and chemistry in Göttingen , from 1933 in Kiel and from 1935 in Würzburg , where he received his PhD. sc. nat. received his doctorate. After the transfer of power to the National Socialists , he joined the SA on July 10, 1933 and was promoted to Rottenführer . During the National Socialist era , he also became a member of the Reich Air Protection Association and the National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV) .

He propagated a National Socialist German chemistry . In 1940 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on highly diluted solvents and was appointed lecturer. In June 1940 he was called up to serve as a war administrator at the Kummersdorf Army Research Center and in 1942 he moved to the Institute for Aviation Research at the University of Strasbourg in occupied France.

Nothing is known about its denazification after 1945. Harms founded the Physikalisch-Technische Lehranstalt (PTL) in Lübeck - Schlutup in 1949 , trained physics assistants and, since 1955, physics engineers, and ensured that the training courses were recognized by the state. In 1963 the school moved to Wedel due to lack of space . In 1978 he handed over the management of the schools to his son Dirk Harms.

In 1972 he was awarded the honorary professorship of the State of Schleswig-Holstein "in recognition of his services to the development of the private technical college and technical school system in the state of Schleswig-Holstein".
