Jennifer "Jen" Kessy (temporarily Jennifer Boss , born July 31, 1977 in San Clemente , California ) is an American beach volleyball player and world champion .

Career

While studying at USC from 1995-1998 , Jen Kessy was on the university's indoor volleyball team . In each of these years, the young woman from Orange County was nominated for the All-Pac-10 team, in 1997 and 1998 also for the All-District team. and in 1998 as an All-American Then the Californian played in the national volleyball team of the USA and as a professional in indoor volleyball for Chicago Thunder in 2002 and in Puerto Rico in 2003.

Jennifer Kessy started her beach volleyball career in parallel in 2000. She achieved rather moderate success in the years up to 2003, with the exception of winning an FIVB Challenger Tournament with Heather Lowe. In 2004 the first AVP final with Barbra Fontana followed , in 2005 two second places with Holly McPeak and in 2006 there were a total of five finals, three with Nancy Reynolds and two with Rachel Wacholder , but still no victory on the AVP tour.

Jennifer Boss, as she was called after their wedding, only succeeded in this in 2008 with her partner April Ross . Before that, at their first joint FIVB tournament in 2007 in Paris , the two suffered a loss in the country quota against their former partner McPeak , but the next tournament in Stavanger was a huge surprise. The Boss / Ross seeded at No. 29 fought their way to the final after having passed the qualification, including a semi-final victory against the Germans Goller / Ludwig . They then defeated the Chinese Jia Tian and Jie Wang and won the gold medal. Never before or after could a team that ranked this low win an FIVB tournament.

In the following year, the two Americans won gold at the last two tournaments of the FIVB series in Asia. However, Kessy / Ross achieved their greatest success in 2009 when they defeated the Brazilians Larissa França and Juliana Felisberta Silva in the finals of the Beach Volleyball World Cup .

2010

The two North Americans successfully started the FIVB series. If they had to be content with 4th place in Brasilia , they could win both the Shanghai tournament and the Foro Italico Beach Volley Grand Slam . In Seoul they took bronze after a semi-final defeat against Larissa / Juliana , in Moscow the two athletes from the United States were defeated in the final by the Chinese Xue / Zhang Xi . At the following events, Jennifer Kessy and April Ross achieved fifth place in both Marseille and Klagenfurt . In Kristiansand they made it to the semi-finals without a fight, as their German opponents Angelina Grün and Rieke Brink-Abeler could not compete due to injuries. However, the Americans lost both the semi-finals and the small finals and finished fourth. At the penultimate event of the year in Sanya , Kessy and Ross failed in the semifinals to Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig, but were able to return the favor for the defeat they suffered in Norway in the game for third place against the Salgado sisters Maria Clara and Carol and received the Bronze medal.

2011

In the first five tournaments of the world series, Kessy / Ross won a medal each with the exception of the Sanya Open , where they finished seventh. At the start in Brasilia she was made of bronze as well as in Myslowice and Beijing , at the Shanghai Open the two US-Americans came second. After finishing fifth at the World Championships in Rome , Jennifer Kessy and April Ross won their only tournament of the year in Norway . Subsequently, the two North Americans only reached seventh place in Québec among the top eight teams. The two former world champions won medals at the events in Stare Jablonki and at the end of the season in Thailand . Kessy and Ross lost the finals in both events. They also finished seventh in Åland and fifth in The Hague .

2012

In 2012 Ross / Kessy competed in nine FIVB tournaments and without exception achieved a top ten placement. At the Olympic Games in London they won the silver medal.

2013

In 2013, Ross / Kessy competed in seven FIVB tournaments and this year too they achieved top ten placements without exception. At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki , Kessy could not compete due to an injury.

2015/16

After a baby break in 2014, Kessy started alongside Emily Day in 2015 and 2016 .

Private life

The daughter of Charlotte and Ronald Kessy, Jennifer Ann grew up with her brothers Ryan and Travis in San Juan Capistrano . She attended Dana Hills High School in Dana Point , California.
