Sara Montagnolli (born December 2, 1978 in Innsbruck , Austria ) is a former Austrian volleyball and beach volleyball player.

Career

Montagnolli began playing indoor volleyball in 1992 and has played in the first division since 1995. She switched from the central block to the outside attack. Two years later she started playing beach volleyball and took part in tournaments of the world series for the first time in 2002. From 2004 she forms a duo with Sabine Swoboda . In the following year the team, which was trained by the Brazilian Leonardo Lourenco da Silva and supported by the armed forces, celebrated its first successes in satellite tournaments and won in Buenos Aires . In 2006, Montagnolli / Swoboda took seventh place at the European Championship and achieved top 10 placements at the Grand Slams in Klagenfurt and Stavanger . In addition to the ninth and fifth place at the tournaments in Berlin and Paris , they recorded a 17th place at the 2007 World Cup in Gstaad . In 2008 they were thirteenth at the European Championships in Hamburg and qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing , but the ÖOC withdrew their nomination due to Swoboda's health problems .

Sara Montagnolli has played with Barbara Hansel since November 2008 . The newly formed duo reached the semifinals in Klagenfurt in 2009, where Montagnolli was also voted the most valuable player, something that no Austrian player had achieved before. In the same year the duo became Austrian national champions.

2010

The year started with a shared seventh place at the Brasilia Open . After six not very successful tournaments, Montagnolli / Hansel reported back to the World Series in Marseille . Behind their compatriots Stefanie and Doris Schwaiger , they achieved bronze after winning the small final over the Dutch Keizer / Van Iersel. At the subsequent home game in Klagenfurt , the two Austrians came back into the top four, a success they were able to repeat in Poland . At the European Championships in Berlin, the women from the Alpine republic lost to the German silver medalists Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler in the quarter-finals.

2011

At the 2011 European Beach Volleyball Championships in Kristiansand , Hansel / Montagnolli won the silver medal.

2012

In July 2012, Montagnolli ended her career after the FIVB Grand Slam in Klagenfurt . But in August she played again in Stare Jabłonki with Verena Kaiser .

Private

Montagnolli's father Wolfgang was a high jumper and her mother Barbara was a sprinter .
