Anja Günther (born September 5, 1983 in Berlin ) is a German beach volleyball and volleyball player .

Sports career hall

In 1994 Anja Günther started playing indoor volleyball. She achieved her first success in 2003 at Köpenicker SC when she was promoted to the second division. Two years later, he was promoted to the first Bundesliga. The middle blocker was both in the opening game against Dresdner SC and in the first win against 1. VC Wiesbaden , which already meant a step towards relegation. The 2005/06 season was also Anja Günther's last season at KSC.

Sports career beach

In 2000, the Berlin native started her career in beach volleyball parallel to the hall. In 2003 she was ninth together with Sara Goller at the U23 European Championships in Poland. At the U21 World Cup in France, the two achieved fifth place. The partnership of the two young players ended with the same placement at the German championship on Timmendorfer Strand . After a season with her new partner Silke Kerl , Anja Günther started with Jana Köhler in 2005 . At the U23 European Championships, which again took place in Poland, the former players of Köpenicker SC defeated the favored duo Goller / Ludwig in the German final . In the next season Günther / Köhler won the German Masters tournaments in Essen and Cologne as well as a second place each in Munich and St. Peter Ording. At the German championship 2006 Günther / Köhler finished ninth. This was also the last joint tournament between the two Berliners. In October 2007 Günther started working with Geeske Banck . At the first start there was a ninth place at the FIVB World Tour in Phuket . Almost exactly a year later, the two Germans again achieved third place in Phuket, their best position so far on the World Tour. Further top placings came in 2008 with reaching the final at the CEV Masters in The Hague and fifth place at the FIVB tournament in Dubai . Anja Günther and Geeske Banck achieved their best placement at the German championships in 2009 when they defeated the favorites Goller / Ludwig in the semi-finals and were only defeated in the final by Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler . In 2010 Banck / Günther achieved seventh place at the Shanghai Open . They separated in July 2011. Anja Günther then formed a duo with Melanie Gernert until 2012 .
