Germany was represented with four male and four female duos each, Austria with three male and two female teams and Switzerland as the host with four male and female duos each.
mode
There were 32 teams each for women and men. In eight preliminary round groups, four teams each played “everyone against everyone” to get into the knockout round. There were two points for a win and one point for a loss. The three best teams from each group reached the knockout round, with the group winners qualifying directly for the round of 16. In the simple " knockout system " it went on until the final. Prize money of 100,000 euros was announced for men and women.
The preliminary round matches took place from June 1st to 3rd. This was followed by three knockout rounds and the semi-finals. The finals were played on June 5th.

canditature
After the Swiss association Swiss Volley won the bid for the 2016 European Championship in November 2012, five candidates - Basel , Biel / Bienne , Lausanne , Lucerne and St. Gallen / Arbon - applied for the event. Swiss Volley finally decided in July 2013 in favor of the city on Lake Biel and submitted the proposal to the European association CEV for review, which approved after a two-day inspection in August 2013. Biel's application was made in collaboration with the Swiss promoter 4sports & Entertainment Ltd , for which the former Swiss beach volleyball player Sascha Heyer also works. In preparation for the title fights, Biel took on the organization of two European Masters tournaments in 2014 and 2015.
