Thomas Kunert (born September 11, 1988 in Korneuburg ) is an Austrian beach volleyball player .

Career

At the 2009 satellite tournament in Vaduz , Kunert competed for the first time with Tobias Koraimann . In 2010 Helmut Moser was his partner before playing with Koraimann again in 2011. In Prague he took part in his first open tournament on the FIVB World Tour . In 2012 he formed a new duo with Lorenz Petutschnig . Kunert / Petutschnig played the Brasília and Mysłowice Open. In Rome they completed their first Grand Slam. They also took part in the Grand Slams in Berlin , Klagenfurt and Stare Jabłonki . In 2013 she came in ninth at the Anapa Open for the first time in the top ten of a tournament on the World Tour. On the national tour they won in rum and came second in Graz . At the European Championships in Klagenfurt , they won two of their three preliminary round games and moved into the first knockout round as third in the group. There they defeated the three-time European champions Numberdor / Schuil from the Netherlands before they had to admit defeat to the later European champions Gavira / Herrera in the round of 16 . Immediately after the European Championship at home, the duo split up.

Kunert has been playing with Christoph Dressler since then . On the World Tour 2013 and 2014 some 17th places were the best results for the new duo. They only made it into the top ten at the CEV satellite tournaments. In 2015 Dressler / Kunert came in ninth in Rio de Janeiro for the first time in the top ten of an open tournament on the World Tour and a little later followed a fifth place in Puerto Vallarta . At the beginning of 2016 there were further top ten results at the open tournaments in Kisch , Xiamen and Fuzhou . At the 2016 European Championships in Biel / Bienne , Dressler / Kunert came third in the first knockout round and had to admit defeat to the Dutch Numbersdor / Varenhorst in the tie- break . At the Continental Cup in Stavanger , together with Alexander Huber and Robin Seidl, they won an additional starting place for Austria at the Olympic Games , which Huber / Seidl then took. Then there were u. a. a fifth place at the CEV Masters in Jūrmala .

In 2017 Dressler / Kunert finished fifth and ninth at the three-star tournaments of the World Tour in Xiamen and The Hague and also ninth at the CEV Masters in Baden . For the 2017 World Cup in Vienna , they received one of the host nation's two starting places. After a third place in their preliminary group, Dressler / Kunert were eliminated in the Lucky Loser round against their compatriots Seidl / Winter . In 2018 Kunert started together with Philipp Waller and later with Peter Eglseer .
