John William Hyden (born October 7, 1972 in Pensacola ) is an American volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career indoor volleyball

Hyden graduated from San Diego State University and played volleyball on the university team . In 1995 he made his debut in the US national team . A year later, the outside attacker took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta ; However, the host's team was eliminated as group fifth after the preliminary round. Four years later, Hyden was again part of the Olympic volleyball team in the USA, which was eliminated from the tournament in Sydney without a win after the preliminary round. He also played for clubs in Italy , Brazil and Saudi Arabia .

Career beach volleyball

In 2001 Hyden began his career in beach volleyball and played for the first time on the AVP tour. There he competed in the following years with many former teammates from the Olympic teams. In 2002 he took part in an open tournament of the FIVB World Tour with Christian McCaw in Berlin for the first time . Hyden / McCaw completed five more Open tournaments this year and achieved two 17th places in Montreal and Espinho as the best result . They also competed in the Grand Slams in Marseille and Klagenfurt . In the following years Hyden played exclusively in the national American tournaments. In 2009 he formed a duo with Sean Scott . In 2011 Hyden / Scott played two Open tournaments in Shanghai and Québec . In 2013 Hyden competed with Nicholas Lucena . The new duo completed their first joint Grand Slams in The Hague and Rome . At the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki, Hyden / Lucena were eliminated after the preliminary round despite a victory over the Canadians Saxton / Schalk . Since the end of 2013, Hyden has been playing alongside Tri Bourne , with whom he achieved his first victory on the World Tour in 2014 when he won the Grand Slam Berlin . By the end of 2016, Hyden / Bourne had numerous top ten results on the World Tour. They reached third place at the season finale in Toronto . Then Bourne had to interrupt his career because of chronic muscle inflammation ( dermatomyositis ). Hyden played with Ryan Doherty in 2017 and with Theodore Brunner in 2018 .

Hyden has been married to actress Robin Hyden since June 2001 and has a daughter with her.
