Vegard Høidalen (born May 10, 1971 in Skien ) is a Norwegian beach volleyball player . He became European champion and took part in the Olympic Games twice.

Career

Høidalen completed its first open tournament in 1995 with Jarle Huseby . In 1996 he formed a new duo with his long-time partner Jørre André Kjemperud . The following year Kjemperud / Høidalen won the final of the European Championship in Riccione in a purely Norwegian final against Jan Kvalheim and Björn Maaseide . They also took part in the first world championship and finished 17th. In 1998 the Norwegians had their first success at an open tournament in Berlin. In the final they defeated the current world champions Guilherme and Pará from Brazil. At the European Championships in Rhodes , the defending champions won the bronze medal. A year later, Kjemperud / Høidalen did not get past 25th at the World Championships in Marseille . They finished the European Championship in Marseille in ninth place. The same result came in the 2000 Olympic tournament in Sydney . The next three European Championships brought the duo three more bronze medals in a row. They also achieved third place at the World Championships in Klagenfurt . After three ninth places at the European Championships in 2003 in Alanya and 2004 in Timmendorfer Strand as well as at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro , they took part in the 2004 Olympic tournament in Sydney for the second time and finished ninth again. They then parted ways.

Hoidalen played with Terje Oevergaard from 2005 and retired from the World Cup in Berlin after two defeats without winning a set. From the Paris Grand Slam from 2006 to the end of 2008, his partner was Kjell Arne Gøranson . For the new duo, the 2007 World Cup ended in the first main round against the later semi-finalists Emanuel / Ricardo . At the European Championships in Valencia , Høidalen went to his old partner Kjemperud and was eliminated after two sets of three defeats.

After a few more tournaments with Gøranson, he formed a solid duo with Kjemperud again in 2009 and 2010. At the world championships in their own country they were defeated in the first main round by the Austrians Gosch / Horst . In 2011 Hoidalen played with Geir Eithun .
