Annie Martin (born September 7, 1981 in Lachine ) is a Canadian beach volleyball player .

Career

Martin played her first international tournaments in 2002 with Guylaine Dumont . In 2003 the Canadians finished fifth at the Lianyungang Open. At the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro , they won their preliminary group and the first knockout game against their compatriots Boileau / Morin before they were defeated by the Americans McPeak / Youngs in the second round . In the 2004 Olympic tournament they finished second behind McPeak / Young's group and reached the quarter-finals with a victory against the Cubans Larrea Peraza / Fernandez Grasset , in which they had to admit defeat to the later gold medal winners Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor from the USA. After the tournament, they parted ways.

In 2005 she and Marie-Christine Pruneau had to say goodbye to the World Cup in Berlin early after two defeats . The next year she succeeded in winning a tournament in Eboli with Katherine Zakrzewski . In 2007 she formed a new duo with Dana Cooke . At the World Cup in Gstaad , Martin / Cooke lost second in the group in the first main round against the Brazilians Maria Clara / Carol . They then finished ninth in the Kristiansand Open.

Martin made her first appearance in Guarujá in 2008 with her last partner Marie-Andrée Lessard . Martin / Lessard finished fifth in Dubai and ninth in Sanya . At the 2009 World Cup , they got into the knockout round in third place and failed in three sets against the US duo Turner / Akers . In 2009 and 2010 they got several ninth places. In 2011 Lessard / Martin reached 13th place in Mysłowice . At the World Cup in Rome they met a Brazilian duo and the Germans Holtwick / Semmler and Brink-Abeler / Grün in the preliminary round , and they only managed to win one set.

In 2012 Lessard / Martin qualified for the Olympic Games in London . There they reached the tiebreaker in every preliminary round game, but couldn't win any of the three games. After the tournament, the two Canadians ended their sporting careers together.
