Nadia Erni (born June 26, 1977 in Lucerne ) is a former Swiss beach volleyball player .

Career

After Erni and her sister Daniela Erni had already gained first international experience in 1998, she formed a duo with Karin Trüssel in 1999 and took part in various national tournaments. Together with Trüssel she reached the top ten at the FIVB satellite tournament in Portici, and despite a good performance in the individual games, she did not get beyond the shared last place at the European Championship in Palma.

A back injury forced Erni to shorten the 2000 and 2001 seasons and she was only able to train sporadically during the two years. Nevertheless, Erni competed in the FIVB Open in Gstaad with Nicole Schnyder-Benoit in 2000 and finished in 25th place. In 2001 she and the young player Isabelle Forrer tried to qualify, but they did not succeed. In 2002 Erni returned to Trüssel after a good recovery, which however had suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the winter and was therefore now in the process of building up for herself.

The reunited team was able to make a number of victories on the Coop Beach Tour from 2003-2005, and they successfully qualified for the main draw of the international world tour several times. In 2005 the duo achieved their best result, in Shanghai they successfully played their way first into the main field, where they fought their way up to shared 13th place with 2 wins. Before and after that there were other main draw appearances, but the duo finished them on 17th, respectively. 25th shared rank (2004/2005). They were able to successfully qualify the duo at the 2004 European Championships at Timmendorfer Strand, but then the air was out and they finished the tournament in last place without winning a set. They had a similar experience at the 2005 World Cup in Berlin, when the duo lost to the Cubans Ribalta / Crespo, but then managed to break into the tie-break against former Australian Olympic champion and World Cup third party Natalie Cook and her partner Summer Lochowicz. This although Erni injured himself during the tournament.

In 2006 Erni formed a new team with her new partner Muriel Grässli . At the first joint appearance at the World Tour in Athens, the newly formed duo was able to qualify for the first time and get a taste of the international main draw together. The two Swiss women were able to achieve other main draw appearances in Gstaad SUI, Victoria BRA and Phuket THA. Since Grässli was on the road for the U20 World Cup, she quickly reunited with Forrer for the Vaduz satellite, where they narrowly missed the semifinals due to a lack of agreement.

Erni / Grässli won the Swiss championship the following year . At the World Championships in Gstaad they started as one of the 3 Swiss teams, where they were eliminated in the preliminary round in front of their own audience despite a victory. At the subsequent European Championship in Valencia they had to admit defeat to the Germans Goller / Ludwig and the Russians Schirjajewa / Urjadowa , who all reached the semi-finals.

In 2002 Erni and her then training partner Patrick Bürgi won second place at a fun tournament in Sardinia.
