The Grenoble-Alpes Métropole is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Métropole in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It comprises 49 member communities and extends between the three mountain ranges Belledonne , Chartreuse and Vercors . The association of municipalities, known colloquially as La Métro , has its administrative headquarters in the city of Grenoble and is also part of the Y grenoblois , named after the shape of the valleys of the Isère and Drac rivers , which converge near Grenoble.

history

In 1973 the Syndicat Intercommunal d'Étude et de Programmation pour l'Aménagement de la Région Grenobloise (SIEPARG) was founded. This was transformed into the Communauté de communes Grenoble Alpes Métropole in 1994 and finally into the Communauté d'agglomération in 2000. On January 1, 2004, the four parishes of the dissolved Communauté de communes du Pays de Vif joined the community association. In contrast, the municipality of Bresson left the municipality association in 2005 to join the Communauté de communes du Sud Grenoblois .

On January 1, 2014, the association of municipalities was converted into the new legal form of the Métropole and its name was shortened to Grenoble-Alpes-Métropole .

President

After the mayor of Seyssins, Didier Migaud, had held the presidency since July 18, 1995, the mayor of Eybens, Marc Baïetto, took over on March 12, 2010. Christophe Ferrari, Mayor of Pont-de-Claix, was elected President in April 2014.
