The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Grenoble and belongs to the canton of Matheysine-Trièves (until 2015 canton of Monestier-de-Clermont ).

Miribel-Lanchâtre is located about 24 kilometers south-southwest of Grenoble on a plateau in the Vercors Mountains. The river Gresse limits the municipality to the east. Miribel-Lanchâtre is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Gua in the north, Saint-Martin-de-la-Cluze in the east, Sinard in the southeast, Saint-Paul-lès-Monestier in the south, Saint-Guillaume in the south and southwest and Château-Bernard in the West.
