It was created with effect from December 31, 2015 as Commune nouvelle by merging the former municipalities of Dionay and Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye (spelling with hyphens). Only Dionay has received the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality ! The administrative headquarters are in Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye.

The municipality is located around 20 kilometers northeast of the city center of Romans-sur-Isère . The river Furand drains from the municipal area with its tributaries to the Isère , which runs just outside the eastern municipal boundary and offers important transport links in its valley, such as the A49 motorway and the railway line from Valence to Grenoble .

The (total) population of the municipality of Saint Antoine l'Abbaye was determined by adding the municipality of Dionay, which was independent until the end of 2015. ______________________________________________________
