Chirens is a French commune with 2,337 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Grenoble and the canton of Le Grand-Lemps . The inhabitants are called Chirennois .

geography

Chirens is located about 28 kilometers northwest of Grenoble on the edge of the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park and on the Ainan River . Chirens is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bilieu in the north, Massieu in the northeast, Saint-Nicolas-de-Macharin in the east, Voiron in the southeast, La Murette in the south, Saint-Blaise-du-Buis in the south-west, Apprieu in the west and south-west and Charavines in the west and northwest.
