Voreppe is a municipality in south-eastern France with 9,293 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It is located in the Isère department in a central location in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , about 15 kilometers northwest of the departmental capital Grenoble .

geography

Located in the French Alps , Voreppe is nestled between the Vercors (2,341 meters) and Chartreuse (2,087 meters) mountain ranges in the Isère valley . The municipality is partly in the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park . The local mountain range has a dry, low mountain range climate. In the wooded landscape at around 250 meters above sea level (in the largely built-up and inhabited part of the village), the seasonal temperature differences between above-average warm summers and cold winters are very high.

Saint Didier priory church

Tourist attractions include the old town of Voreppe with various listed buildings, the Romanesque church Église prieurale Saint-Didier or the castle Château de Sièyes .

To the east of Voreppe is the Chalais monastery .

economy

On the outskirts of Voreppe there is the industrial zone CentrAlp on an area of about 200 hectares , which Voreppe shares with the neighboring municipality of Moirans to the northwest . In this industrial area with a total of more than 3,000 employees, branches of world-famous companies such as Thomson , Péchiney (now: Constellium ) and Allibert Sanitaire have settled.

Parish partnership

A community partnership has existed between Voreppe and the southwest German community of Lichtenstein in Baden-Württemberg since 1992 .
