Pierre-Chatel is a French commune with 1,496 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Grenoble and belongs to the canton of Matheysine-Trièves (until 2015: canton of La Mure ). The inhabitants are called Pierre-Chatelois .

Pierre-Châtel is located about 27 kilometers south-southeast of Grenoble on the Jonche . Pierre-Châtel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Théoffrey in the north, Villard-Saint-Christophe in the northeast, Saint-Honoré in the east, La Mure in the southeast, Susville in the south and La Motte-d'Aveillans in the west.
Route nationale 85 runs along the eastern edge of the municipality .
