Saint-Jean-le-Vieux is located about eleven kilometers east-northeast of Grenoble in a valley of the Grésivaudan . Saint-Jean-le-Vieux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Versoud in the north and west, La Combe-de-Lancey in the east and northeast, Revel in the south and Domène in the west.
