Ponsonnas is a French municipality with 291 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Rhône-Alpes ). The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Grenoble and belongs to the canton of Matheysine-Trièves (until 2015 La Mure ). The inhabitants are called Ponsonnaraux .

Ponsonnas is located about 29 kilometers south-southeast of Grenoble on the Drac , which borders the municipality in the south-west. Ponsonnas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Mure in the north and north-west, Sousville in the north-east, Saint-Laurent-en-Beaumont in the east, Saint-Pierre-de-Méaroz in the east and south-east, and Saint-Jean-d'Hérans in the south and south-west as well as Cognet in the west and south-west.
