General
In a dedicatory inscription found here, the name of the Gallo-Roman god Artaius is mentioned.
One of the local attractions is the priory of Notre-Dame de Parménie (Our Lady of Parménie), a Carthusian convent from the 13th century. It burned down in the 15th century and was rebuilt in the 17th century. In 1944 it was destroyed again and then restored.
The place is on the historically significant Route Napoléon ( Route nationale 85 ); the station is only in operation for passenger traffic at the time of the Foire de Beaucroissant .
Foire de Beaucroissant
The place is famous for the Foire de Beaucroissant (Agricultural Fair of Beaucroissant), which has been mentioned in the chronicles since 1219. It is held annually on the last weekend in April and the second weekend in September, with up to 1,800 exhibitors and more than 800,000 visitors. Agricultural products, a livestock show and an amusement park for younger visitors can be found on an area of more than 30 hectares. The pilgrimage to Notre-Dame de Parménie has been the reason for the great importance of the fair since 1220. It is the main source of income for the community.
