Chat is a commune with 2,512 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Grenoble and the canton of Le Sud Grésivaudan (until 2015: canton of Saint-Marcellin ). The inhabitants are called Chattois .
geography
Chatte is about 38 kilometers west of Grenoble on the Merdaret river , in the historic Dauphiné landscape . The Isère delimits the municipality in the southeast. Chatte is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Appolinard and Chevrières in the north, Saint-Marcellin in the east, Saint-Romans in the southeast, La Sône in the south, Saint-Hilaire-du-Rosier in the southwest, and Saint-Bonnet-de-Chavagne in the west and south-west and Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye to the west and north-west.
The A 49 autoroute runs through the municipality .
