Allevard is a French commune with 4,102 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The inhabitants call themselves Allevardin (e) s.
geography
Allevard is located at an average altitude of 464 meters above sea level in the northeast of the Isère department in the Belledonne Mountains in a valley north of the Saint-Hugon state forest , 23 kilometers southeast of Chambéry , the prefecture of the Savoie department . The municipal area has an area of 25.63 square kilometers. and is crossed by the Bréda river.
history
On January 2nd, 1790 there was an earthquake in Allevard during which a thermal spring was created, which was called l'eau noire , black water, because of its high sulfur content . In 1858 the spring was officially declared a healing spring.
politics
Allevard is part of the Le Grésivaudan municipal association . Since 1991 there has been a town partnership with the Italian municipality of Menaggio .
Culture and sights
Allevard is represented with two flowers in the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris (National Council of Flowered Cities and Villages). The "flowers" are awarded in the course of a regional competition, whereby a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.
economy
There were iron mines and iron processing plants in Allevard until the 17th century. Today the health resort is known for its sulfur springs and is therefore also called Allevard-les-Bains . Further branches of business in the community are forestry , fruit growing , breeding of domestic sheep and domestic goats . Local products are mainly honey, goat cheese and sheep cheese . There are also several farm inns.
