Goncelin is a French commune with 2,425 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Grenoble in the canton of Haut-Grésivaudan . The inhabitants are called Goncelinois (es) .
geography
Goncelin is a municipality in the Grésivaudan valley . The Isère river forms the western boundary of the municipality. Goncelin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Vincent-de-Mercuze in the north and north-west, Le Cheylas in the north, Morêtel-de-Mailles in the north and north-east, Saint-Pierre-d'Allevard in the north-east, Theys in the east and south-east, Tencin in the south and south-west, La Terrasse in the south-west and Le Touvet in the west.
The A41 car route also runs along the western boundary of the municipality . The municipality is also crossed by the former Route nationale 523 (today's D523).
