The inhabitants are called Rutissons .

Saint-Vincent-de-Mercuze is a municipality in Grésivaudan and is located in the Chartreuse Mountains . The Isère limits the municipality to the east. Saint-Vincent-de-Mercuze is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont in the north and west, La Flachère in the north, Sainte-Marie-d'Alloix in the north and northeast, La Cheylas in the east, Goncelin in the southeast, Le Touvet in the south and Saint-Bernard in the southwest.
The A41 autoroute runs through the municipality .

From 1973 to 1984 the municipality was merged with the neighboring commune of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont .
