Varces-Allières-et-Risset is located south of Grenoble at the confluence of the Gresse and Drac rivers . The neighboring municipalities surrounding Varces-Allières-et-Risset are Claix in the north, Le Pont-de-Claix and Champagnier in the northeast, Champ-sur-Drac in the east, Vif in the south, Saint-Paul-de-Varces in the southwest and Lans -en-Vercours to the west. Parts of the municipality belong to the Vercors Regional Nature Park .
