education

Helmut Hörtenhuber was born on September 15, 1959 in the Upper Austrian capital Linz . There he also attended compulsory schools and graduated in 1978 from the natural science secondary school of the Georg-von-Peuerbach-Gymnasium in Linz-Urfahr . He then began studying law at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz . In 1982 he became the Doctor of Law (Dr. iur.) Graduated . He is a member of the Catholic student associations KaV Austro-Danubia Linz (since 1979) and KÖStV Severina Linz (since 1982) in the ÖCV .

Professional background

From 1981 to 1983 Hörtenhuber initially worked as an assistant in the administrative department of the regional school board for Upper Austria. In 1983 he finally joined the administrative state service and he was subsequently assigned to several departments in the office of the state government and to the district administration of Gmunden . In 1986 and 1987, Helmut Hörtenhuber worked as a research assistant for the first time at the Constitutional Court in Vienna.

From October 1987 Hörtenhuber worked in the constitutional service of the Office of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government and from 1989 also in the Landtag directorate of the Upper Austrian Landtag . From 1990 to 1993 he was subsequently employed as deputy state parliament director and deputy head of the constitutional service. In 1992 he completed a civil service internship with the legal service of the then Commission of the European Communities . In 1993, Helmut Hörtenhuber finally took another step in his career when he rose to the position of head of the constitutional service in the office of the state government and the post of state parliament director.

In 2008, Helmut Hörtenhuber was nominated by the federal government as a new constitutional judge on the proposal of the ÖVP and appointed by Federal President Heinz Fischer . As a constitutional judge, he is also one of the permanent consultants of the VfGH.

Since 2009, Hörtenhuber has also been teaching at the University of Linz , where he has been an honorary professor for public law at the Institute for Multimedia Public Law since 2011 .
