Claudia Kahr (born September 30, 1955 in Graz ) is an Austrian lawyer and judge at the Constitutional Court .

Professional background

Kahr, who comes from a family of doctors, attended elementary school as well as the lower grades at schools in Graz and graduated in 1973 from the modern-language Bundesgymnasium Graz. Subsequently, she began studies of law at the University of Graz , where in 1978 the doctor of rights ( Dr.iur ) doctorate was. She graduated from the court practice in 1978.

In 1978/1979 she attended the Collège d'Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and then worked in the constitutional service of the Federal Chancellery until 1984 . In 1984 she briefly became a legal assistant in the cabinet of Finance Minister Herbert Salcher . Subsequently, Claudia Kahr was assistant to the board and head of the advertising and public relations department at the Austrian Tourist Office from 1984 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1987 she was again a member of a cabinet of ministers with Health Minister Franz Kreuzer as a legal assistant . She then moved to the cabinet of Economics Minister Rudolf Streicher until 1989 . From 1989 to 1992 Kahr was a constitutional employee in the SPÖ parliamentary club, before she became the office manager of State Secretary Brigitte Ederer in 1992 . In 1996 she took over the management of group A in the constitutional service of the Federal Chancellery and in 1997, as head of section, the management of Section II Basic Transport Policy / Transport Planning for all land transport modes in the Federal Ministry of Science and Transport .

In 1999 Claudia Kahr was nominated by the Austrian Federal Government as a member of the Constitutional Court at the suggestion of the SPÖ and was appointed on March 22, 1999 by Federal President Thomas Klestil . As a result, from September 1, 1999, she was repeatedly elected permanent consultant in the college of constitutional judges.

From June 23, 2010 to December 15, 2017, Claudia Kahr was also chairman of the supervisory board of the state-owned ASFINAG holding company. She was the first woman in this position. Kahr is considered a committed feminist .
