Sopachuy is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Sopachuy is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sopachuy in the province of Tomina . The village is located at an altitude of 2096 m at the confluence of the Río Silva and Río San Antonio , which unite at Sopachuy to the Río Milanis , which later leads over the Río Azero into the Río Grande . The mountain ranges near Sopachuy, which run from north to south, reach heights of over 2500 m.
geography
Sopachuy is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands. The climate of the region is semi-humid and a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
The annual average temperature of Sopachuy is a mild 21 ° C (see climate diagram Sopachuy) and fluctuates only slightly between 17 and 18 ° C in June and July and just under 23 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to September with monthly precipitation below 25 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 100 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.
Transport network
Sopachuy is located at a distance of 197 kilometers by road southeast of Sucre , the capital of the department.
From Sucre, the 976 kilometer long highway Ruta 6 leads in a south-easterly direction via Zudáñez , Tarabuco and Yamparáez to Tomina and on to Padilla and from there into the Bolivian lowlands.
Eight kilometers south of Tomina at the confluence of the Río Tarabuquillo in the Río Tomina , a dirt road branches off in a southerly direction and follows the Río Tarabuquillo upwards and after 15 kilometers passes the town of Tarabuquillo . After overcoming the pass height of 2,420 m, the road descends the Río San Antonio until it reaches Sopachuy after another 19 kilometers .

Due to the historical population development, a significant proportion of indigenous people live in the region ; 93.8 percent of the inhabitants speak Quechua in the municipality of Sopachuy .
