The municipality of Sopachuy is a district in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Sopachuy is one of five Municipios of the Tomina Province and includes its western area. It borders on the municipality of Tomina to the north, the province of Jaime Zudáñez to the west, the province of Azurduy to the south, the municipality of El Villar to the southeast , and the municipality of Villa Alcalá to the east .

The municipality extends between about 19 ° 18 'and 19 ° 26' south latitude and 64 ° 22 'and 64 ° 40' west longitude, its extension from west to east is up to 30 kilometers, from north to south up to 35 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 109 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the town of Sopachuy with 1,937 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the eastern part of the district.

The municipality of Sopachuy is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands. The climate of the region is semi-humid and a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
