Tomina is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Tomina is the central place of the Municipio Tomina in the province of Tomina and is located at an altitude of 2057  m on the left bank of the Río Tomina flowing north . The Río Tomina is a right tributary of the Bolivian Río Grande and lies in one of the side valleys on the eastern slope of the Bolivian Cordillera Central .

Tomina lies in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands. The region's climate is mild and balanced.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 19 ° C (see Tomina climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 16 ° C in June and July and almost 21 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 100 to 125 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Tomina is 155 kilometers by road east of the departmental capital Sucre .

The village is located on the 976 km long highway Ruta 6 , which connects Sucre with the Bolivian lowlands and the local metropolis of Santa Cruz . The road to Sucre is unpaved for the first 45 kilometers to Tarabuco and only then has an asphalt surface, it passes the town of Zudáñez and after another 43 kilometers reaches Tomina .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Tomina 94.0 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
