Zudáñez is a small town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Zudáñez is named in honor of the freedom fighter Jaime de Zudáñez (1772–1832), who was born in this region. Zudáñez is the seat of the administration of the province of Jaime Zudáñez and the central place of the municipality Zudáñez at an altitude of 2472  m on the left bank of the north flowing Río Zudáñez . The Río Zudáñez is a right tributary of the Bolivian Río Grande and lies in one of the side valleys on the eastern slope of the Bolivian Cordillera Central .

Zudáñez is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands. The region has a typical daytime climate, in which the mean temperature fluctuation is more pronounced during the day than during the seasons.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 19 ° C (see Tomina climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 16 ° C in June and July and almost 21 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 100 to 125 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Zudáñez is 112 kilometers by road east of the departmental capital Sucre .

Zudáñez is on the 976 kilometer long national road Ruta 6 , which connects Sucre with the Bolivian lowlands and the local metropolis of Santa Cruz . The road to Sucre is unpaved for the first 45 kilometers to Tarabuco and only then has an asphalt surface.

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Zudáñez 95.1 percent of the population speak Quechua .
