Georg Lienbacher (born February 21, 1961 in Hallein ) is an Austrian legal scholar and constitutional judge . He is currently university professor for public law at the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, as well as a judge at the Austrian Constitutional Court .

Georg Lienbacher was born on February 21, 1961 in the city of Hallein in the Austrian state of Salzburg . From 1972 to 1980 he attended the St. Rupert Missionary High School in Bischofshofen before doing military service in the Austrian Armed Forces. In the years 1981 to 1985, he then graduated from the Law studies at the University of Salzburg , where he on February 7, 1985 Doctor of Law doctorate was. In 2010 Georg Lienbacher was nominated by the Austrian Federal Government as a judge at the Constitutional Court at the suggestion of the ÖVP and was appointed by Federal President Heinz Fischer in 2011. As a constitutional judge, he is currently also one of the permanent consultants at the Constitutional Court. At his former alma mater , the University of Salzburg , Georg Lienbacher was appointed by the Senate as a member of the University Council in 2018 , which subsequently elected him as its chairman.
