Heinz Peter Rill

Heinz Peter Rill (born June 13, 1935 in Vienna ; † November 29, 2015 ) was an Austrian law scholar and university professor . From 1973 to 2003 he held a chair and university professor for public law at the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, and from 1985 to 1987 also rector of the University of Economics and Business.

Heinz Peter Rill was born in 1935 in the Austrian capital Vienna, but attended school in Salzburg , where he also graduated . He then began studying law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law (Dr. iur.) In 1958 .

Professional background

During his studies and especially after graduating in 1958, Heinz Peter Rill initially worked as a research assistant and later as a university assistant at Walter Antoniolli's chair at the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna . He then taught and researched in particular at the law faculty, but also at the philosophy faculty of the University of Vienna. In 1971 habilitated to scoring with a postdoctoral thesis on member state contracts. With his habilitation he obtained the license to teach the subjects of general political science, constitutional law and administrative law as a university lecturer at the law and political science faculty of the University of Vienna. In 1971 he was also awarded the Cardinal Innitzer Prize for Advancement of Law and Political Science . This was followed by a position as a scientific consultant at the Federal Chamber of Commerce from 1971 to 1974.

In 1973, Heinz Peter Rill was appointed to the chair of public law and thus to a full university professorship at what was then the University of World Trade, which was later renamed the Vienna University of Economics and Business. From this point on, Rill worked for 30 years as a professor at the University of Economics and Business, taking on internal university functions, such as the head of the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law (now the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law) for around 20 years. From 1985 to 1987 Rill was also rector of the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Until his death he was chairman of the arbitration committee of the university of economics. In 2003 , Heinz Peter Rill retired as a university professor, with Georg Lienbacher succeeding him as a professor.
