Walter Antoniolli

Walter Antoniolli (born December 30, 1907 in Innsbruck or Mistelbach an der Zaya ; † May 23, 2006 in Vienna ) was an Austrian constitutional lawyer and president of the Austrian Constitutional Court from 1958 to 1977.

Life

Originally born in Innsbruck in 1907, Antoniolli moved with his family to Mistelbach in Lower Austria as a child , where he attended high schools in Korneuburg and St. Pölten . He graduated in 1926 and then began at the University of Vienna the Study of Law . This he completed in 1932 with the promotion of Doctor of Law ( Dr.iur. ) From. He then joined in 1934 after completion of the court practice in magistrate of St. Pölten in the administrative service one. Towards the end of the Second World War , Antoniolli was drafted into the German armed forces for military service.

Soon after his habilitation , Antoniolli became professor for public law at the University of Innsbruck in 1947 . In 1951 he was appointed a member of the Constitutional Court by Federal President Theodor Körner . In 1956 he succeeded Ludwig Adamovich senior. appointed full professor for constitutional and administrative law at the University of Vienna . In February 1958, he was appointed President of the Constitutional Court by Federal President Adolf Schärf .

Antoniolli resigned as President of the Constitutional Court shortly before reaching the age limit (70 years), as he intended the positive decision on the University Organization Act 1975 , which he considered to be contrary to the fundamental right of freedom of teaching , intended by the majority of members of the court close to the SPÖ , did not want to contribute.

As the author of the standard work “General Administrative Law” published in 1954, Antoniolli is known in Austrian legal circles to this day.
