Edwin Loebenstein

Edwin Loebenstein (born May 10, 1911 in Vienna ; † August 27, 1998 ibid) was an Austrian lawyer and President of the Administrative Court .

Life

Loebenstein studied law at the University of Vienna , his hometown, and began his professional career in 1934 with the financial procurator. In 1936 he was appointed to the Ministry of Finance and in 1937 to the Constitutional Affairs Department of the Chancellery. In 1941 the Nazi regime removed him from civil service. In 1945 he took over the management of the constitutional service in the Chancellery of the Second Republic . Under his leadership, the Constitutional Service assumed a key role between ministerial administration and legislation. On April 11, 1973 he was President of the Administrative Court (VwGH) until his retirement in 1979 .

He was an honorary professor at the University of Vienna . He taught constitutional law , administrative theory and administrative law .
