from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The parliament directorates are the offices of the nine in Austria existing diets . Each of the state parliaments has a state parliament directorate attached to it as a parliamentary administrative apparatus, each headed by a state parliament director. As the central office of the respective Landtag, the Landtag directorates for the Landtag, their committees, the Landtag President and the Presidium perform numerous administrative tasks.

Areas of responsibility

In addition to a large number of other areas of responsibility for the administration of the state parliament and its business operations, the state parliament directorates primarily have to perform the following activities:

  • Preparation of sessions for the plenary sessions of the state parliament as well as for committee meetings
  • Preparation and execution of the minutes of the state parliament and the committees
  • Event organization
  • public relation
  • Legal advice and clarification of legal questions
  • Management of the office of the President of the State Parliament

The Landtag director, who heads the Landtag directorate and manages it administratively, is a senior state civil servant and, in most state parliaments, besides the state office director - the head of the state administration - the only civil servant who regularly takes part in the state parliament meetings as an assessor without voting rights. According to the state governors' conference and the state parliament presidents' conference, there is also a state parliament directors' conference at which the state parliament directors of all nine state parliaments meet.
