The Georg-von-Peuerbach-Gymnasium is a general education high school in Linz-Urfahr with the three branches of the Gymnasium , Realgymnasium and Sportgymnasium ("Sportgymnasium Peuerbachstraße"). Around 800 students are taught by around 80 teachers at the school. The school was named after Georg von Peuerbach , a mathematician and astronomer at the time of early humanism.

School types

The Georg-von-Peuerbach-Gymnasium is a "3-branch company" with a linguistically oriented high school, a secondary school (focus on mathematics, natural sciences) and a sports secondary school.

  • The Sport-Realgymnasium comprises eight school years (grades 1–8). Students have seven to eight hours of exercise a week; in the upper level also the subject of sports studies.
  • The Realgymnasium begins after the first two grades in the 3rd grade with expanded math and science classes . In the upper level, there is also the focus on "networked thinking" (interdisciplinary project teaching, especially in natural science subjects). In the 8th grade, philosophy of science is taught as an interdisciplinary subject ( physics / philosophy ).
  • The grammar school begins in the 3rd grade with the additional subject Spanish , from the 5th grade onwards Latin is added. A school-specific specialty is the additional subject "Sociocultural Learning" in the upper level, which contributes to a better understanding of the globalized world.

Educational offer

The foreign language offer includes English for everyone from the 1st grade onwards, six years of Spanish lessons and four years of Latin lessons (grammar school), four years of lessons optionally in French, Italian or Latin (grammar school and sports grammar school). Spanish can also be chosen as an elective.

As an alternative to denominational religious instruction there is the subject ethics in the upper level . Special attention is paid to social skills. The school has a “psychosocial network” team available for this purpose.

Free subjects and exercises, especially with a broad musical and sporting spectrum, complete the offer.

History and infrastructure

The Georg-von-Peuerbach-Gymnasium was founded in 1969 as BG / BRG Peuerbachstraße, the school building in Peuerbachstraße was completed in 1971 and completely renovated in 1996. In addition to 30 classrooms, the school has two special classrooms each for music, visual education, physics, biology and computer science, a chemistry room and three work rooms, five sports halls and spacious outdoor sports facilities. Day care is offered for students who stay at school all day.
