Eybens is a French commune in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It has 10,185 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is part of the Arrondissement of Grenoble and part of the canton of Échirolles (until 2015: canton of Eybens ). The inhabitants are called Eybinois .


Eybens is surrounded by its neighboring communities Grenoble in the north, Saint-Martin-d'Hères in the northeast, Poisat in the east, Brié-et-Angonnes in the southeast, Bresson in the south and Échirolles in the west.


Eybens is connected to the Grenobles tram . The Route nationale 87 runs through the municipality as Roncade Sud and motorway feeder .


The place appears for the first time in the church records in the 11th century. The place is mentioned as Aiben at the beginning of the 12th century.
