Lavars is a French municipality with 148 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016: Rhône-Alpes ). The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Grenoble and belongs to the canton of Matheysine-Trièves (until 2015: canton of Mens ).

Lavars is about 38 kilometers south-southwest of Grenoble . In the northwest, the municipality is bounded by the Drac , which is dammed up here to form the Lac de Monteynard and into which the Ébron flows here, which delimits the municipality in the west and northwest. Lavars is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Roissard in the north and north-west, Treffort in the north, Mayres-Savel in the north-east, Cornillon-en-Trièves in the east, Percy in the south and south-west, Clelles in the west and south-west and Saint-Martin-de-Clelles in the Northwest.
